I’ve read some people start finding distraction painful around the 6cm mark. I’m at 2.5 cm, and find my 3rd and 4th session (.25mm each) to be pretty painful. Is this normal? Anyone have tips? I’m quite nervous for the pain once I’m further along.

Generally speaking, it gets harder as you go. However, it's not necessarily linear.
If it hurts after you distract, it might be excess bone rubbing against your muscles. That's visible on x-rays.

Alternatively you can go down to 3 sessions per day.
