Have you been able to walk unaided? If so when were you able to? I'm 4 weeks into consolidation but my bones haven't healed to that point yet.
Done with Precice 2.2 Lengthening with Dr. Debipashard. AMA

You will be in the hospital from Friday to Sunday and within that timeframe if there's any fat embolism, there will be signs. Your oxygen saturation level will be low because fat from the femur blocks the blood vessels in your lung. Also, for me, I had some complication on my retina since blood vessels in the eyes are very very fine and can be easily blocked by fat. Also, you will have fever. I had everything and it resolved naturally with time. However, on my eye, I see some tiny gray patches on my left vision probably due to fat blocking oxygen to some retina cells. Retina cells don't regenerate like your brain cells. I recommend not moving or sitting upright for first few days to prevent fat from traveling to upper body.
Even after I was discharged, I found that my blood oxygen level was low around 80%. (buy a bluetooth oximeter for $25). So I bought oxygen concentrator for $300 and it worked wonders. I was able to breath easily and reached 99% oxygen concentration while I sleep.
Everything is fine now except my vision, but I sometimes use the oxygen concentrator since I found I wake up very refreshed when I use it sometimes, although the rubber pipes are kind of annoying while I sleep.
Wow wow thank you for sharing this MyMove. I have been trying to learn about this complication since weeks and finally we have someone in this website who has himself dealt with it. Has this eye problem become better now MyMove?
Why would you go to some random Surgeon? I've never heard of this surgeon. You should have went to Paley period. I heard this guy charges 75k for the surgery, paley charges 15k more for the base fee at 90k. Why not go to him?
Hey man, thanks for the post.
- Are you comfortable sharing what your pre-operative body weight was?
Also, can you share with us the apartment where you rented? I'm having my surgery in a couple weeks.
Thanks!
Did you have to get any of the additional surgeries dr D lists on his website?
ILIOTIBIAL BAND RELEASE - $3,000
BICEPS TENDON LENGTHENING - $3,000
GASTRO-SOLEUS RECESSION - $4,000
I am still surprised the doctor does not inform his patients about possible vision impairment even though he has supposedly had a few patients out of hundreds he has operated on with this complication. That is not a small risk measure that can be ignored. Even while getting facial fillers they inform you that there is a tiny risk of vision impairment. How come it's ignored for LL?
Dr D aint cheap. I would pay for Paley if I had to do in the U.S. I did not get the feeling he cared too much about the person, just the money. glad I passed on him.
Recently there was an interview with Dr Taylor Reif from HSS on Cyborg4life
He made it seem like vision impairment from fat embolism is not really a thing. He said people shouldn't worry about it. But Dr Debiparshad is supposed to have already had a handful of cases of it.
Hey MyMove,
Hope you're keeping well. We are eager to hear about your recovery now that you're at the 10th month mark.
Please update your diary!
