It's quite hard to find information on this on the internet.

I am under the impression that for, for e.g. 6.5 cm in femurs using LON/LATN, around 100 days might be spent in distraction (give or take) and another 6 months or so spent in consolidation.

So it would be around 9 months before the frames came off.

Is this correct, or is it far less than this when using internal methods?

Any clarity shed on the situation would be much appreciated.

don't do femurs with frames. It's a recipe for disaster (especially bilateral).

femurs = internals / monorails
tibiae = externals / internals / monorails

monorails aren't encouraged because they're harder maintain alignment with.

Ah, I thought even internals were done with external frames, I must be wrong.

Is the LON/LATN device actually inserted entirely inside the leg then?

EDIT:

Never mind, this thread clarified this question for me:

Frames come off early for internal methods, after distraction is complete.

Monorails on femurs are probably one of the worst ways to do LL

They are unstable af

I don't know which is worse externals or monorails (for femurs) but I can't imagine wearing bulky af frames on both legs around the thighs! I think you can't even close your legs for months. You will probably end up with hip and knee contractures.

You risk either heavy scaring and nerve injuries or bone deformations.

In a big shortcut, don't risk your own health and use only internals for cosmetic purposes.

Or think about lengthening your tibias.

Which would be better, monorails or external for tibias? You guys think it's risky to go LON on tibs?

Monorail is pure external aswell.

Imho classic ilizarov/TSF is probably the best external method for cosmetic LL since you can correct any problems on the go.

Hmm... this means that if I were to length 7cm on tibs using ilizarov, I could cut the time using it to 1/3 mixing with LON?
In this case I would only need to use the device for around 3 months, and then keep the inner rod for some years?
