I wouldnt do this if there's any other choice, but my parents are strictly against it. I could do LON at DongHoon in a year time if I spend every penny I have, but is it worth it? How much should you have in reserves after surgery fee for complications cost? Alternatively I could get it done in Vietnam for a third of the price but the risks are more unknown. I live in East Asia, so US doctors are out of the question. Who is the best doctor in East Asia?

Depends, how old are you? Most people's parents don't pay for their LL so it's pretty standard for you to pay for yourself.

Donghoon is probably the best doctor for LL in all of Asia followed by Parihar, since both of them trained under Paley. Although I believe Parihar has more experience since he trained under Paley much earlier. Donghoon is going to be the better option, better facility, etc. But the cost of the surgery as well as hotel, food, etc is going to be more expensive. Vietnam isn't recommended because there isn't enough patient info. If the US is out of the question maybe consider Europe?

if you are korean or Japanese then donghoon is the best option for you otherwise you'll face the language barrier and problems related to that so it's better to do it in Europe. I think cost wise giotikas is a good option.

I'm Chinese and I would very much prefer Dong Hoon if I could afford it right now.

If you can do it then go for it. Don't lose time. You can earn more money in the future but you can not buy back the time.

If my parents would support me I could have it done immediately. Otherwise I have to work another year or 2. My parents are completely against it they wouldnt fork a penny.

You will get a personalised answer from everyone so here is mine. One hundred and one percent no. Although I must admit that before I did this operation i knew that it would only just make me normal and I would not exactly be gaining anything in life it would be more like I would not be losing anything and be on level ground with every other average guy in the world. LL is a massive journey, it is nothing like a nose job where you see the results the very next day and there's this massive Wow factor of self improvement and a gain in confidence. LL is long and painful, by the time we are fully recovered many I find are not exactly over the moon about it but they can move on from the height neurosis. There are too many things for me to name that will require you to save money in life and I do not recommend splashing everything away for LL.

It's a treatment of a mental illness and mental illness is worst than any physical illness.

If you're very young and you know you can recoup that losses easily (e.g. your career has significant pay raises and you have a very popular degree like computer science and are half competent), I'd do it. These people have no issues finding employment and LL is not much more than a 1 year setback financially, which is nothing. If you're like going to be homeless after this and all you work at is McDonald's with no degree and that was like 5 years worth of savings and theres no potential for salary raise, I wouldn't do it. Unless you're like under 25, in which I would still do it, YOLO.

As an anecdote, the majority of successful LL diaries (excluding ones with complications) I read have one regret and one regret only: Not doing this earlier. Take that for what you will.

Like Indian said, you can get back money in the future, but can't get back time. Chances are, if you're on this forum, height neurosis screws with your baseline happiness on a daily basis (exception of covid where we don't go out and see others). If you don't have height dysphoria/neurosis then nothing I say applies anyways/ why are you even on this forum lol.

It's up to you, but remember your parents aren't suffering height dysphoria, you are. You don't need permission from them to do what YOU think is best for you.

Tldr; unless you're literally gonna go homeless afterwards, it's not an unreasonable decision to spend a significant chunk of your money doing LL especially if you're in your early to mid 20s. My opinion.
