Hey everyone,

I recently had femur lengthening surgery and am currently in the limb lengthening process. Since I had an accident on one leg, I’m only lengthening that leg. My question is: Should I aim to make the lengthened leg longer than my normal leg, or should I keep them the same height? I’m concerned that the lengthened leg might get shorter/compressed over time. Honestly, I feel like my doctors aren’t that focused on aesthetics. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hello, thank you for joining our forum

Achieving symmetry between your legs after femur lengthening surgery is crucial, especially when only one leg undergoes lengthening due to prior trauma or discrepancy. Your concern about the lengthened leg potentially shortening over time is understandable, but this is generally uncommon if the lengthening and healing processes are managed appropriately.

Regular follow-ups, where both legs’ lengths are measured and adjustments made as necessary, are essential.

If you feel your aesthetic concerns are not being addressed adequately, it’s important to communicate this with your surgical team. They can provide you with more detailed information about long-term expectations and reassess the goals of the lengthening process.
