I also want to add that I have never seen someone lengthening a max of 6cms with reputable docs and not recovering fully and rather quickly. While for a guy shorter than 168 i would understand why he would have more to gain by doing 8cms and taking more risks, a 170+ guy has much more to lose as life at the heights between 170-175 are not bad at all regarding to dating (less than a tall height maybe) and ending up crippled or with long term xonsequences is just not worth it in my honest opinion
QuoteThanks for the response. The input of your PT is valuable, but I will say that speaking with Dr. Assayag most of his patients that willingly stop short of 8CM are satisfied. In a weird way, your PT's opinion carries more weight with me since they are working closer with patients day in and day out.
We get caught up with numbers in these spaces: lengthening 8CM, being 180CM, 6 feet. It's more of a feeling we should be aiming for w/ this process, or a lack of a worry about our height.
A major downside of the non-stryde nails is that you don't get to experience your new height as it comes , unless you are using your walker around other people. You're usually not out in normal social situations that would trigger your height dysphoria, so how do you know if its still there? How do we know if that "feeling" has been reached?
I am sure at your starting height you get people asking why you would even bother with this surgery, but you have the same dysphoria that anyone else getting this surgery has. In my opinion, once you've reached a point where that dysphoria is gone, you've won, and it is time to move onto other things. Statistically, going from 179 to 185 is jumping 23 percentiles in height. That is a pretty big difference. That additional 2 CM bumps you up another 4.4 percentiles. Its definitely a case of diminishing returns. Listen to your body, and do what feels right. You'll have my support regardless.
The way I look at it, is will I ever be in a situation where I will think "Darn, If I was 1.7CM taller I would feel so much better right now"? I can't see it. Its more likely I am in a situation where I think I need 4 CM more and need to go get my tibias done. I hope that day never comes, but I can't completely rule it out. Truthfully I am human and I will probably rationalize whatever decision I make.
My experience with CLL is that so many aspects are individualized: pain (I have a LOT), bone growth (mine is literally through the roof), sleep (12 hours a day with no issues other than pain), and so on. My femurs were VERY short before this procedure, so much so that people close to me observed on that, and so did Dr. Rozbruch. More than having the height increase, the procedure brought me into a better proportional ratio overall.
I walk around on my walker quite a bit. My height neurosis went away immediately after the surgery, literally, because I knew I was able to finally control the situation and do something about it. I've been very open about the surgery with many people in family and friend circle. They come over to visit and the change thus far is startling. I can actually see it myself, so I can gauge the difference on a daily basis, in real time. It's not about a number for me. It's about doing this once and putting the procedure in the rearview mirror. For that aspect, and that aspect alone, as long as my body allows, I'm going to finish. Once I'm done, I want to be able to say I did everything I set out to do.
That's it. For you, only you can know what's right. Whatever choice you make, as long as you're happy with that, it's the right one.
I dislike the terms 'neurosis' and 'dysphoria'. Makes it seem like this isn't actually a real problem, and instead more like some bull mental issue.
No, it's not all in your head. You really are at a disadvantage in a great many things in life if you're short. That's the cold hard facts.
YES, if it's got to the point you can't even walk in the street, you do have mental issues AS WELL. But as for disliking being short? No, that's not all in your head, it's because it's objectively BAD in society to be short as a man.

Very well put my friend. If you said you were going to do the full 8 CM prior, go for it. I will keep following your progress and wish you the best!
Hi, Yes at 5.6 cm I was far more flexible, those last few cm to reach 8cm almost did me in lol, I was lengthening only 0.25 mm some days and took a few days off.

I'm so sad Im at 34 mm right now and started doing 0.75mm a day on my femurs already because of nerve pains. I'm not tight, but the nerve issues makes my sleep miserable. I feel like not sleeping on my back (with my legs straight) also makes my hamstring tighter since sleeping with your legs straight is like a free stretch. If i continue at 0.75mm a day I will have almost 60 days until i hit 8cm. fking miserable 60 days, I dont even want to know how bad it'll get when I hit 70mm.

Hang in there! That 2.5cm to 4mm is quite brutal mentally, but it's gets easier after that. It's very individualistic, but 6cm to 8cm wasn't a huge difference for me. Keep stretching and it'll make things easier. Talk to your PT about your nerve pain, he might be able to release it, and if not - you can take Gabapentin (if you're not taking already). And last, I suggest don't count the days yet, it's a bit early for that

Bro, sleeping on my back but with my legs bent (pillow under my knees) was a godsend when I had nerve pain. This was a tip from Moshe, the famous LL PT - I had a consult with him because my nerve pain was skyrocketing. He said you need to give your nerves a break and a chance to heal, and this will do it. You can go back to straight legs once this is done.
He was right. I did this and this "hack" was magic. Nerve pain went away that night through the night, and went away totally in a week and a half. Hippo06 is right that 2.5 to 4 is the worst. You get a grab bag of different pain every day and it's super frustrating.
Believe it or not, 5 to 6 has been smooth sailing for me thus far, and I don't expect that to change through 8cm. Hang in there!!
fk these are some solid tips. Yeah that mental barrier where I’m like ..bruh I’m not even half way stinks. And yes taking gaba 300mg 3x per day. It’s gotten better over the last week though not gone.

Exactly! Don't think about the end, just think about making 4cm. Things will start to turn around then
