I think all reasonable doctors,if are not greedy salesmans, should allow you to do that because:
-you are using 1 device for time(nails or ilizarov frames) so the cost should be halved
-unilateral implies half surgery, half meds and half time of operation for obvious reasons
-after finishing 1 unilateral, you will be forced to do the another one in order to have the legs of the same size so you will respect the deal.
When i will go for a consultation,i'm gonna test the doctors asking that.If he refuses to do that,he is clearly a clammy moneymaker and for consequence he must be avoided at all costs.
Implying double costs for two unilateral is simply unacceptable. All of you should test your own doctor on this topic before choosing him, even though you are not interested in splitting the process
I'm not gonna list all the pros of two unilateral against the contros(only time,if the same price is allowed).
We patient must start to command the game.
If one doctor refuses 20.000$ safe and certain against 40.000$ incertain, well he is a salesman and so :"Adieu"
It gonna be funny
Two unilateral surgeries at the same price of one bilateral
You need an operating room Two times , anesthesia Two times , etc . You are not going to do It for exactly the same price, because costs are not the same.

What are you talking about ? Unilater requires half anesthesia time and therefore half meds. And even though it could be an extra cost, this would be max 500$,not a double surgery price !
I'll start a my personal list of "Mercenary doctors" adding (after consultation or simply emailing) those that attempt to make pathetic excuse in order to avoid doing it or to charge in a unnecessary way
Patient have to start rulling the game

Noone will charge you the double.
But yes there is a difcerence to do 2 surgeries compared to 1, not anything ia half.
I think that up to 10% more money is a sensible price but not more than that.

10 % is too much.A respectable doctor would charge the same ammount

He won't and I explained you why.
Doing 2 smaller surgeries is always more expensive than one bigger which contains the other 2.
If you find even one doctor in the world who would do it for exactly the same money, consider yourself lucky.
But you won't.

I'm pretty confident I will.Just look at one example:
Let's suppose he want to charge an extra 10%,like you said before. So it would be a 20.000+2000=22.000$
Then I will say:"I'm sorry but i don't want to pay an extra fee, there are no valid points in my opinion. If the price is the same,i will do the surgery"
Do you think he would be that stupid risking to lose a potential patient and real 20.000$ because of 2000$ of extra-charge ?
I don't think so
Obviously i'm excluding all the mercenaries that will attempt to charge double fee or thing like +20/+30% or more, they simply can go to the hell.
Contracting is the key
I agree that two stages procedure is ideal, if you use precice, if not, dont even think about It, becuase It has reverse mechanism And would be difficult to end with a discrepancy due to bad regeneration or something like that.

I didn't understand your comment.I know that both Precice and Ilizarov frames have a reverse mechanism.
I'm considering a bilateral because I really don't feel safe having both legs broken at the same time.I want to have at least one healthy leg,in case something goes wrong or the process is unbearable.
And there are also other advantages(faster and easier recovery,+50% mobility,-50% pain, minor risk of fat embolism, more bearable process, the benefits of having 1 healthy leg ecc)
