Insurance companies wouldn't decide on a case by case basis.  If that's indeed their policy, it applies to every member.

You mean internally they have a rule about it? I'd be surprised but who knows. A few people in this forum mentioned their insurance paid the hospital bill and they weren't that short (including that guy who was like 5'10 but I suspect he had a really good insurance).
