I have e-mailed Dr. Giotikas this study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26398436
This is his/his assistant's answer:
Thank you for the link you shared, very interesting study with a large sample. Only caveat is that it is cadaveric (dead bones) study so it bases the diagnosis of arthritis on the condition of the joint only and not on actual symptoms of arthritis (pain, joint stiffness, disability etc). Osteoarthritis is mainly a clinical diagnosis and we have seen great variability between the condition of the joint and the severity of symptoms. Treatment decisions on osteoarthritis are based mainly on the symptoms and signs of clinical examination of the patient rather than on x-rays showing just the condition of the joint. In any case, the preoperative planning of your case includes the respect of your body proportions and this is the great value of "Athena" method.
What do you think about it? I haven't understand everything.
