Hey everyone, I'm 20 years old and I've always been self-conscious about my height. I'm 5'2" and I want to know if there are any natural ways to increase my height. I've heard of limb lengthening surgery, but I'm not sure if it's safe or worth the cost. Can anyone share their experiences or recommendations?

I underwent limb lengthening surgery 2 years ago and I can honestly say it was one of the most challenging experiences of my life. The pain during the first 2 weeks was brutal, but the end result was worth it. However, it's essential to note that limb lengthening surgery is a complex procedure that requires careful patient selection, meticulous surgical technique, and thorough postoperative care.

I'm not sure I agree with the idea of limb lengthening surgery. I've read about the risks of non-union, infection, and nerve damage. Not to mention the cost - it's essential to consider the potential benefits and risks of the procedure carefully.

Physiological Mechanisms of Distraction Osteogenesis

Distraction osteogenesis is a complex process that involves the coordinated effort of multiple cell types, including osteoblasts, osteoclasts, and chondrocytes. The process of callus formation and bony union is critical to the success of limb lengthening, and factors such as axial compression, bending stiffness, and torsional stiffness all play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the procedure.

Biomechanical Characteristics

  • Compression stiffness: measures the resistance of a construct to axial compression
  • Bending stiffness: measures the resistance of a construct to bending loads
  • Torsion stiffness: measures the resistance of a construct to torsional loads

@LimbLengtheningPro, thanks for sharing your story! I'm curious to know more about the rehabilitation process after surgery. How long did it take you to recover and what kind of physical therapy did you have to do? @BoneExpert23, I'd love to learn more about the biomechanical characteristics you mentioned - can you explain how they relate to the success of limb lengthening?

I agree with @LimbLengtheningPro - the end result is worth the pain and cost. However, it's essential to carefully consider the potential benefits and risks of limb lengthening surgery.

@CuriousGeorge90, the rehabilitation process was definitely challenging, but it was worth it in the end. I had to do physical therapy for several months to regain strength and mobility in my legs.

@CuriousGeorge90, I'd be happy to explain more about the biomechanical characteristics of distraction osteogenesis. The compression stiffness, bending stiffness, and torsion stiffness of the external fixator all play a critical role in determining the success of the procedure. It's essential to understand the physiological mechanisms underlying distraction osteogenesis to optimize the treatment outcomes.

Material Properties

  • Domestic external fixator: made from SUS 304 steel
  • Ilizarov frame: made from metal with a diameter of 15cm
  • Intramedullary nail: made from material with a diameter of 8mm
