Quite smoking immediately. Smoking significantly reduces your bone and soft tissue recovery rate. It also poses problems during anesthesia.
It's not about when. Don't do this procedure or any open wound surgery unless you have quit smoking or other substances.

Thank you, then its time I try to quit then as the thread creator said he wants to do aswell

Not only after the surgery, you should also quit smoking so when an accident happened to your legs, you can handle the injury easier.
