Uppland, where are you come from? 178 cm is not a short height (if you don't live in northern Europe...)

I have to point out that the average in eastern europe is actually higher than in northern europe. 178 is on the lower edge of the average height in most central european countries as well.

That's Serbia and Montenegro, otherwise I don't believe they're that tall, am I wrong?

Ah ok. Effectively people are very tall in Sweden. I live in Italy (southern Italy, precisely) and here at 178 cm you are quite above average (average here means 174-175 cm, no more), this is the reason because I didn't understood your problems with height...
By the way, I noticed that these problems are generally subjective: there are 160 cm people which don't care about being short and 180 cm people which feel short even in Asia  Average shoulder width.  so... follow your feelings, you are the only owner of your life  Average shoulder width.

Warning though, if you have BDD, you might want to avoid opening this pdf/naval study

Mine are 50.5 with the shirt method.  If you want broad shoulders, work your back mostly!

This method is nice to calculate proper arm length, wingspan - shoulders = arm length

So mine are 190.5 (6'3")-50.5 for 70cm arm length

Well, at 5'5'' with 45 CM shoulder I've been called 'Big Show', 'Big Guy'.
That should tell ya thing or two about average shoulder width.
