Hello there

So, here's the deal. We all know that Dr.paley has been involved in this field for a really long time and has acquired a lot of experience. I watched one of his presentations recently, and at one point he mentioned that Precise 1 had more problems relative to Precise 2 in the sense that it was more prone to breakage and etc. As far as I know, Precise 1 was released in 2012, but correct me if i'm wrong. My question is: When was the Precise 2 released and how many years, on average, does it take for an internal nail to advance into something reliable?

Thanks.

I guess there is not some average of years on which we can predict when a nail will be improved, since nails are a new technology to begin with

But really, what more than Stryde can we expect? It is essentially a full weight bearing nail and can even reverse, I don't see what more could be improved

It is just such a process that has to be done in a brutal away unfortunately it seems

This is what I remembered reading about the Precice nails by Nuvasive. I may be off on some information, so I’m just writing from memory.

Precice 1: Released 2011 or 2012.
Limit: 6.5cm

Precice 2: Released 2014
Limit: 8cm
Improvements: It can retract (reversed), if you have a non-union problem or other complication. Greater limit.

Stryde: Released 2018 (aka Precice 3)
Limit: 8cm
Improvements: Full weight bearing. Rods may hold up to 250lbs, previous rods load limit was 50lbs

Stryde is as advanced as it can get. The main reason some patients use Precice 2 is that it’s a few thousand dollars cheaper, and some small boned people (especially small women) don’t have enough bone space for the Stryde rods, so the narrower Precice 2 is the only option.

Thanks for replying!!

The reason for asking this question is that most probably I will not be able to access Stryde nail. That's because I live in a country where it is not available, and it is also expensive if I had to go abroad to get it done. The local doctor who I had a consultation with recently introduced me to a nail that his team have been developing for the past three years. I asked him if it is as reliable as Precise, and his answer was positive. Apparently, after doing some measurements based on the X-ray, the associated company makes you a custom-made nail which is full-bearing. It is much more affordable than Stryde, but I'm not sure If I can trust a nail that is not known internationally. To comfort my concerns, he suggested me to talk to his previous patients that got it done via that nail. Looking forward to that! I hope they'll share with me their honest experience.

I will soon upload some videos of patients who got it done using that nail.
