Hi everyone, I'm considering limb lengthening surgery and I was wondering if it's possible to gain 6cm with the latest techniques? I've heard about the Ilizarov method and the LON technique, but I'm not sure which one is more effective. Can anyone share their experiences or knowledge on this topic?

I've gone through the LON procedure and I can tell you that it's a complex process that requires careful planning and execution. The results can be significant, but it's essential to discuss the potential risks and benefits with a qualified surgeon.

I'm not sure if it's worth the risk. I've read about the potential complications, such as pin-track infections and nerve damage. And what about the cost? I've heard it can range from $15,000 to $40,000. Is it really worth it? Has anyone had any negative experiences with the surgery?

Distraction Osteogenesis and the LON Technique

The LON technique is a reliable method for limb lengthening, but it requires careful patient selection, meticulous pre-operative planning, and rigorous post-operative physiotherapy. The use of an intramedullary nail in combination with an external fixator allows for more stable and controlled distraction osteogenesis.

  • The distraction rate is typically 1mm/day, divided into 4 increments of 0.25mm each.
  • The consolidation phase can take anywhere from 2-3 months per cm of length gained.
  • The total treatment time can range from 9-12 months for a 5cm lengthening.

It is essential to consult with a qualified surgeon to discuss the potential risks and benefits of the procedure, including pin-track infections, nerve damage, and deep infection of the intramedullary nail. The cost of the procedure can range from $15,000 to $40,000, depending on the device and procedure used.

@LimbLengthener, that's interesting to hear about your experience! Can you tell me more about the rehab process? What kind of exercises did you have to do, and how long did it take before you could walk normally again?

@SkepticalSarah, I understand your concerns, but I've had a great experience with the Stryde nail. The pain was minimal, and the recovery time was relatively quick. Of course, everyone's experience is different, but I would definitely recommend it to anyone considering limb lengthening surgery.
