Suppose a 5'6" male is going to get femur lengthening with Stryde nails. What would be the best weight or BMI at surgery. Here is a BMI calculator.

https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/BMI/bmicalc.htm

Patients usually say you will lose weight during the distraction phase, so more body weight will supposedly help. But if you weigh too much, it would be more stress on the Stryde nails, and you'll will have more muscle on your legs which will make lengthening more difficult. Is there any guidelines on recommended body weight or BMI for surgery, or does it really even matter (as long as you are not excessively heavy or light)?

Probably around 20. Saw an obese patient tho. Like literally obese like my 600lb life. So I think any weight will be fine. Don't be fat cuz fatter u are the more likely ur just gonna chill in bed and skip PT or stretching

Also even the biggest Stryde nail can only support 250lbs. So if you weigh more than that it won't be fully weightbearing.

as you can see the smaller ones are 150 and 200.
i wouldnt worry too much about having too much muscle as it will help more in the long run
